Armed bandits reportedly abduct 35 women in Zamfara state

35 women were abducted by armed bandits at a farm at Matankari village in Dansadau district of Maru local government area of Zamfara state yesterday December 12th. According to residents of the village, the armed bandits who rode on motorcycles, stormed the farm where the women were threshing sorghum and forcefully carried 35 of them. This incident comes barely a month after 40 residents were abducted in Maru local government area of the state and released in a cows- for- persons swap deal with the state government.

Last week, the DG of NYSC, addressed newsmen where he said a preliminary investigation by the scheme showed that Corps member, Ifedolapo Oladepo, who died in Kano camp on November 29th, had nursed an earlier ailment which she did not disclose to the scheme during her registration (read here) Well, her father, Olawale Oladepo, a retired Sanitary Inspector, has refuted this claim. Speaking to newsmen in Osogbo, Osun state yesterday, Mr Oladepo said his daughter nursed no ailment before she departed home for Kano at about 6am on Thursday, November 24th.

Three Arrested Over Hard Drugs Concealed In Hair Extensions (PHOTOS)

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday, said it had intercepted 83.390 kilogrammes of ephedrine and arrested three suspects in connection with the seizure at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos. NDLEA Commander at the airport, Ahmadu Garba, in a statement, gave the names of the suspects as a 42-year-old Unegbu Daniel Chukwu from Anambra State, 28-year-old Ettah Joseph from Cross Rivers State and a 31-year-old Wopara Bright from Rivers State. According to Garba, ephedrine is an ingredient used in the production of methamphetamine.

A Nigerian woman identified as Cynthia gave birth aboard a rescue ship, Aquarius, off the coast of Libya at 1. 50pm on Sunday, December 11th, after she was rescued along with other migrants on Saturday night from a wooden boat. She named the boy, who weighed about 6.8lbs, Favour. Both the child and the mother are healthy and doing well. Around 36 people were thought to be on the wooden boat, which was located in the Mediterranean, 12 miles off the coast of Libya. 

The American Civil Liberties Union is suing a town in Indiana for displaying a cross atop its Christmas tree

The American Civil Liberties Union of Indianapolis is suing Knightstown, home to just 2,000 people, for displaying a lighted cross at the top of its community Christmas tree arguing that the display is overtly religious. It appears the suit was instituted by a resident named Joseph Tompkins who argues that the cross violates the First Amendment, effectively blurring the line between church and state because the tree is displayed prominently in the town square. According to court documents, Tompkins 'objects to any of his tax dollars going to pay for the erection or maintenance

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has declared that the terrorist attack on Cairo Cathedral on Sunday, December 11th, was carried out by 22-year-old Mahmoud Shafik Mohamed Mostafa. "A young man entered the church. His name is Mahmoud Shafik Mohamed Mostafa. He blew himself up inside the church. He is 22-years-old,” announced President Sisi at the state funeral for victims of the attack on Monday. "Yesterday, the whole night they [forensics] were gathering the body of Mahmoud Shafik Mohamed Mostafa.
