London police called in to arrest The Guardian newspaper reporter for wanting to interview President Buhari

Security men at the Abuja House in London where President Buhari is staying, yesterday called the police to arrest a correspondent of The Guardian newspaper who had arrived the premises, demanding to see President Buhari so he could interview him.

According to a report by the newspaper, after the reporter arrived the Abuja house which is the official residence of the Nigerian High commissioner to the UK in the afternoon, demanding to see the president, a member of staff at the premises told him that the President wasn't there.

According to the report, at about 2:50pm, a black Mercedes Benz SUV arrived the premises and the occupant sitting by the driver rolled down the glass and asked the The Guardian correspondent, “why are you here?”

“When I told him that l was a reporter with The Guardian and l had come to see if the president was there and to interview him, he looked quite irritated and replied angrily: ‘he’s not here, you can’t see anybody here’.

Shortly afterwards, two police officers, Constables Marlett and Stock, arrived on their motorcycles with the intent to arrest the reporter. They took the reporter’s name and date of birth and subsequently made a check on the national database, before staying around for about 20 minutes and then left.

The reporter was later directed to go to the Embassy- Nigerian House at Northumberland Avenue to see any official there for any information he is seeking to get. “Somebody should be there,” he was told.

According to the reporter, at about 1:20 p.m., a man and a teenage-looking girl presumably President Buhari's daughter, arrived the gate and they were granted access.

When asked:”Is that the daughter of the president?”, the security officer replied “I don’t know.” When The Guardian reporter pressed the gate buzzer about five minutes later, the security man sounded angry and threatened to call the police. “You should realise this is a private place and I will call the police,” the security officer said. When he was immediately corrected and told that the reporter was standing outside in a public place, he then said:” l won’t speak to you again.”

However around 1:40 p.m., when two guests arrived, the reporter shook hand with one of them and asked, “have you come to see Mr. President?” He replied cheerfully saying “yes”, but he didn’t enter the compound. He left about 15 minutes later.

Another security officer came out shortly after and told the reporter to move away from the main gate. “Excuse me, you can’t just stand here,” he said.

The reporter stated that he sighted Senate President Bukola Saraki, leave the Abuja residence yesterday. Recall that President Buhari on his twitter handle, posted that he had a meeting with Saraki at the Abuja house yesterday.

Wife of the President, Her Excellency Mrs. Aisha Buhari has charged privileged Nigerians to do more in the lives of the less privileged with a view to increasing the feeling of humanity among citizens.

She made the call during the distribution of gift packs to patients at the four district hospitals in Abuja; Asokoro, Garki, Wuse and Maitama in commemoration of her birthday, on Friday 17th Feb.

Mrs. Buhari, who was speaking through Senior Special Assistant to the President, Dr. Hajo Sani, further said that imbibing the spirit of giving will spread love and amity in the polity. She said these gifts exemplify the work that Her Excellency’s project, Future Assured is doing all over Nigeria, especially to the less privileged.

“Her Excellency wants to remember the less-privileged on this important day and that is why she is sharing with them. She wants to touch their lives and wants them to feel her on this symbolic day” said Dr. Hajo Sani.

The Medical Director, District Hospital, Asokoro Dr. Abubakar Ahmadu, who led the team round maternity, neonatal and paediatric wards in the Hospital, commended wife of the President for her humanitarian services that hold wide acclaim and said the gift packs are symbolic of what privileged Nigerians should do to the underprivileged.

Dr. Sani was supported by Dame Pauline Tallen, former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, and Mrs. Beatrice Bassey, Coordinator, African First Ladies Peace Mission at the outing.

Bill Gates warns the world to prepare for bio-terrorism

On Saturday, February 18, 2017, Bill Gates spoke at the Munich Security Conference in Germany where he said,

"It's time to redirect some of the money the world spends on weapons to prepare for a looming threat: terrorists with pathogens. He's warning that the threat of bio-terrorism is "right up there with nuclear war and climate change."

He says it's now necessary for the world to prepare for what he considers to be one of its largest existential threats: the next pandemic.

"Whether it occurs by a quirk of nature or at the hand of a terrorist, epidemiologists say a fast-moving airborne pathogen could kill more than 30 million people in less than a year. And they say there is a reasonable probability the world will experience such an outbreak in the next 10 to 15 years" he said.

The most recent pandemic was even more deadly than that, Gates pointed out. A flu outbreak that occurred naturally killed between 50 million and 100 million people in 1918.

Photo: Woman arrested for allegedly killing her pregnant co-tenant in Ebonyi state

Ebonyi state police command have arrested 24 year old Jacinta Ewa Omiko, for allegedly murdering her pregnant co-tenant, Ginika Gabriel, during a quarrel at their home in Akpoh village in Afikpo North Local Government Ebonyi State on January 28th.

The Sun reports that trouble started when the deceased's son, defecated at the hallway in their apartment.

Jacinta challenged Ginika over her son's act and the women soon began exchanging words. The suspect during the altercation, picked up a kitchen stool and hit it on Ginika's head. She slumped immediately and died following the failure of her Neighbors to revive her.

Her remains was later deposited at the God’s Seed Funeral Mortuary, Afikpo.

When interrogated, Jacinta said she never intended to kill her neighbor.

“What happened was that I asked my neighbour, Gabriel, to clear the feaces of her son on the floor of the passage, to avoid people stepping on it. She ignored me and we began exchanging words. Then a fight ensued and I pushed her down.”she said

Confirming the incident, the state commissioner of police, Titus Lamorde said an autopsy would be carried out on the deceased while the suspect would soon be charged to court. Meanwhile the family of the deceased are demanding that justice must be done in the case. They described Ginika as a reserved person. They are demanding for the suspect to be prosecuted and if found guilty, sentenced to jail.

According to NEMA South West, the woman identified as one Chinagorom Adibe Fustine , who drowned after a skidded off the the road and plunged into Mekwe river, Bonny Camp, Lagos, was pregnant.

The silver colour Kia Rio car with registration number Lagos MUS 38 BL plunged into the river with the driver, who identified himself as Felix Aniele swimming out of the river bank. The dead body has been deposited at the Mainland Hospital Mortuary. Lagos State Emergency Management Agency conducted the recovery operations in conjunction with NEMA, FRSC, Nigerian Police Force, LAWSA, and LASAMBUS.

Photos: Remember the teenager whose hand was cut off in Delta State for attempted phone theft? He went stealing again!

The teenager thief whose hand was chopped off in Sapele, Delta State, for attempted phone theft apparently didn't learn a lesson as he went stealing again last week. According to Sapele Oghenek Facebook page, he was caught and beaten to a pulp.

Last April, the teenager slipped his hand through the open window of a house and tried to grab a phone lying there but luck ran out on him when the homeowner picked up a cutlass and chopped off his hand. See previous post here. This is quite sad. Can someone just help him?

Deputy Chief of Staff to Plateau state government, Yusuf Hawaja, has died

The Deputy Chief of Staff to Plateau state government, Yusuf Gambo Hawaja, has died. According to family sources, the deceased who is a lawyer by training, died today at the Bingham University Teaching hospital in Jos. He had been suffering from an undisclosed ailment. He slumped at his home this morning and was rushed to the hospital where he was confirmed dead. May his soul rest in peace, Amen
