8 soldiers killed, 3 missing in Boko Haram ambush on military convoy in Borno

At least eight soldiers were killed by suspected Boko Haram terrorists yesterday Thursday, February 9th, along Ajiri-Dikwa road in Dikwa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The troops were escorting about 200 newly-trained soldiers from Maiduguri to Dikwa when they were ambushed by the terrorists around 7:30pm.

"There was a heavy gunfight. At least eight soldiers have been confirmed killed and two others injured. Boko Haram also suffered losses" a military source told AFP.

"It was a surprise attack and this is what led to the casualty toll," the source added on condition of anonymity.

A Civilian JTF member, who confirmed the attack said as many as 10 soldiers may have been killed.

Photo: Nigerian student arrested for duping married woman in Sri Lanka on Facebook

A 22-year-old Nigerian National, who had befriended a married woman in Sri Lanka over Facebook and later lured her into giving him Rs 4.3 million, was apprehended in Malabe.

It was gathered that the suspect identified as Benson David seduced the 38-year-old woman and won her heart over Facebook by allegedly promised to give her valuable presents after showing her photos of gold jewellery and other valuables.

The suspect had then informed the gullible woman that in order to release the parcels containing these valuables, a customs duty amounting to Rs4,360, 000 needed to be deposited to three accounts.
The woman had readily agreed and deposited the money to Benson David, who is a student at a reputed private institute of higher studies. The complainant woman is a mother of one and her husband is employed abroad. Her husband had been remitting about Rs 100,000 every month to her while he was abroad.

At the time of the arrest the suspect had a total of Rs1.8 million in his bank account. He was produced before the Passara Magistrate yesterday, Thursday, February 9th and was remanded until the 22 on the orders of Magistrate Rasanjana Jayasekera.

Muslim clerics in Borno state begin 10-day fasting and prayers for Pres. Buhari's health

Some Muslims clerics in Maiduguri, Borno, have begun a 10-day fasting and prayer session to seek God's intervention regarding President Buhari's health.

Spokesperson of the muslim clerics, Malam Uma Bolori, told newsmen that President Buhari deserves their prayers for helping to stop the incessant attacks by Boko Haram members in their state:

“Our prayer is what President Buhari needs from Nigerians rather than rumors. President Buhari deserves prayers from the people of North-East, for not allowing Borno to go on extinction when almost all the territories in the state were taken over by Boko Haram. We are going to fast, supplicate and recite Holy Qur’an 50 times for improved health condition of our President. Nigerians must rally round their leaders and pray for them, to enable them succeed in steering the affairs of this country"he said

Nigeria's credibility before the international community has improved because of president Buhari- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama says

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, has said that Nigeria's credibility before the committee of Nations has greatly improved since President Buhari took over office in May 2015.

Onyeama said this when he addressed newsmen in Enugu yesterday February 9th.

"The nation’s credibility before the International Community has improved but I think it is mainly because of the person of the president. The International Community is very impressed with the president’s records so far. He has a track record of real integrity and that is why they are responding so positively to our economic, security and anti-corruption initiatives. A Nigerian man with 90 capsules of cocaine in his stomach was arrested at the the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) Delhi, India, by Narcotics Control Bureau sleuths, on Monday, February 6th. The man, identified as Okonkwo M Tony, was apprehended after he landed at the airport from Ethiopia’s capital Addis Ababa.

He was admitted to a hospital by the sleuths of the Delhi Zonal unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

Officials said he has ejected 90 cocaine-filled capsules weighing 1.3kg in two days. They said Tony had initially misled the sleuths saying he had come to India for business purpose while carrying a tourist visa.

He was admitted to a hospital and after medical intervention, he ejected the drug-filled capsules. He told investigators that he had swallowed these at a guest house in Lagos and then reached Addis Ababa via Lome (Togo). He was apprehended as soon as he landed here from the Ethiopian capital,” an official said.

The officials claimed Tony was supposed to hand over the drug capsules to another Nigerian national here, whom the agency has been trailing.

Tony has been arrested under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

This is the fourth case of seizure of cocaine by the NCB in Delhi in the last one month.
They said the method of smuggling after swallowing the drug is not easy to detect as it is hard to identify any concealment inside the body

Court records show that Inmates in a US prison have been breaking out and sneaking back in for years

Back in January 2013, the Atlanta Police Department started investigating inmates "temporarily escaping" from the medium-security US Penitentiary in the city, According to filed court documents (see court papers here), cops believe the inmates escaped through holes cut in the prison fence.

Court records show that officers first noticed a car parked near the prison fence line. The people inside wore ski masks and jumpsuits. When cops approached, the suspects climbed the fence and ran back onto prison grounds.

Inside the car, cops found bottled alcohol, 24 cell phones and two loaded handguns. Late last year, officers discovered two man-sized holes in the fence.

A month later, surveillance cameras were installed along the prison fence, and over the next three weeks, cops watched as inmates escaped to retrieve large bags of contraband. Then on February 3, one inmate's luck ran out. Justin B. Stinson allegedly escaped though the fence and grabbed a large black duffel back filled with contraband. As he was trying to sneak back into the penitentiary, FBI agents arrested him, according to court documents.

The FBI found Stinson with a cell phone, a pair of scissors, two 1.75-liter bottles of Jose Cuervo tequila, two cartons of Newport cigarettes, four boxes of Black & Mild Cigars and some food.
