Being a Mum: The Joy of Motherhood

This is a sponsored post...
“ I enjoyed the silence in my home this morning as I cleared the breakfast table after the Champs left for school. I knew the calm wouldn’t last for long, as in a couple of hours,  the noise would return and the house will be turned upside down.
As expected, only bread crumbs and empty cups (which contained hot MILO a very short while ago) were left on the table. Their appetite for breakfast has been very impressive lately.

My Mum calls at exactly 10a.m., our daily ritual since I got married over a decade ago.
“Maureen, did your father tell you he was traveling today?”, “Yes, he did Mum” and the conversation goes on.
“Love you more”, I have told her before ending the call 15 minutes later. I sighed and walked to the dining table to continue my much deserved breakfast.
Lately, I’ve been expressing love to my mum more than anyone else (don’t tell my husband) and I realise what we have by far outweighs our mother-daughter bond. I’ve literally stepped into her shoes from the first day I became a mum.
Being a stay-at-home mum of two beautiful miracles has been an exciting journey so far with many more years to go.
I’d like to think the pain of childbirth is one of the best feelings in the world, that my children saying ‘mama’ the first time was the best word I’ve ever heard and their cries were like music to my ears.
To know my mum went through this life transforming journey I’m currently on still amazes me and I know one day, we’ll sit together and have that conversation of how she did a fine job of raising me and my four brothers.
Surprisingly, my superwoman isn’t planning to retire anytime soon.
Sometimes, I cling to the memory of the young girl who was bursting with life before motherhood, but you know that feeling of being in a whole different place now, leaves me wondering how the future with my children would be like.
Will ‘having fun with mum’ be a drag because they think she’s boring and they are much smarter than me or is it something they’ll always look forward to?
And a part I dread the most, will they always listen to me?
I guess I’ll ask my mum if she ever felt these same fears while raising us.
Because, I know years from now, when they become parents, what would matter most is the unconditional love and the lessons I raised them with as their mother and hope they’ll teach the same to their kids, after all #MumsAreTheBest.”

Photos/Video: Former U.S. President, Barack Obama goes kitesurfing with Richard Branson

Billionaire Richard Branson has shared photos from a Kite-surfing competition he had with former U.S. President, Barack Obama. He narrated the experience in an article shared on his website this afternoon.
"It was a huge honour to be able to invite President Barack and Michelle Obama down to the British Virgin Islands for a complete break after Barack finished his second term as President and the family left the White House.
"One of the first stories Barack told me when he and Michelle arrived on Moskito Island was how, just before he became President, he had been surfing on a dangerous break in Hawaii. When he came in from an exhilarating session, the new head of his security team turned to him and said: “This will be the last time you surf for eight years.” For the next eight years he didn’t have the chance to surf, enjoy watersports or do many of the things he loved.

"So it was tremendous to offer him the chance to learn to kitesurf. The sport has really taken off in the past decade and we have the perfect conditions and team to help anyone learn. I have also wanted to learn foilboard surfing. So we decided to set up a friendly challenge: could Barack learn to kitesurf before I learned to foilboard? We agreed to have a final day battle to see who could stay up the longest.

"Barack started learning to kitesurf on the beach on Necker for two days solid, picking up the basics and flying a kite as if going back to being a child again. Then he went into the water, standing up and getting a feel for the kite. Finally, he put the board at his feet and gave it a go. Being the former president of America, there was lots of security around, but on the next stretch of water, I soon learned that foilboarding, even if you can kitesurf, is a completely new sport. You come shooting out of the water, crashing down at high speed, and very much need a helmet and body armour for safety. But I slowly got the hang of it.

"As you can see in the video, Barack and I both fell many times, but we kept trying again and again and made progress over the days. We were neck and neck until the last run on the last day, when I got up on the foilboard and screamed along for over 50 metres, three feet above the water. I was feeling very pleased with myself, only to look over and see Barack go 100 metres on his kiteboard! I had to doff my cap to him and celebrate his victory.

"After all he has done for the world, I couldn’t begrudge him his well-deserved win. Now he has left, I’m going back into the water to practice for the next challenge. On his next visit, we plan to do the long kite over to Anegada together. Next time, may the best (British) man win!"

Jumoke Aderounmu and Adeniyi Johnson react to semi-nude poster of ‘Blogger’s Wife’ movie... Movie in cinemas this friday

Scheduled to hit the cinemas on Feb. 10, two of the casts of the movie ‘Blogger’s Wife’, Jumoke Aderounmu and Adeniyi Johnson has categorised it as a movie with rich story line and full of moral lessons while also sharing about the perception people have from seeing the semi-nude cover.

The movie tells the story of a male blogger (Deyemi Okanlawon) whose power was his internet-enabled laptop; his downfall is almost his wife and his weapon, sex. The quest to overcome his challenges and meet his wife’s expectation leads to the various intense scenes that add a twist to the story.
‘Blogger’s Wife’ stars Deyemi Okanlawon, Ijeoma Grace Agu, Adeniyi Johnson, Seun Omojola, Segun Arinze, Adunni Ade, Aisha Lawal, Adejumoke Aderounmu, Bukunmi Oluwashina, and many others.
2017 MAYA Award Winner, Adejumoke Aderounmu, said, “there are so many things you can learn from the movie, there is a major issue that happens in marriages across the world which is couple not understanding each other, couple not having the depth of knowing that marriage is supposed to be for better or for worse and having to not respect your significant other’s decision, self-respect, communication, self-worth and connection. In the movie if either of the couple understood each other they will know at the point that things started getting bad. So it is not a pornography film it is a very deep story.”
Adeniyi Johnson on the other hand encouraged the audience to go see the movie and desists from spreading negative rumours about the film. In his words: “Don’t judge a book by its cover, why don’t you try to see the movie before you talk about it. It is a day-to-day story which everyone one can relate with. You will love the film.”
The movie which will be hitting the cinema on February 10 is a gripping and engaging drama that gives an insight on the pressure a spouse face in marriages, especially a career-oriented marriage.

Nicolas Cage's son arrested for DUI after crashing car into tree following police chase (photos)

Nicholas Cage's son, Weston Cage, was arrested over the weekend for driving under the influence, DUI, after he got into a minor car accident and fled from the police during a chase.

The 26-year old actor and son of actor Nicholas Cage with ex-girlfriend, Christina Fulton, was driving a Chevy Camaro on Saturday afternoon when he got into an accident in San Fernando Valley.

The father-of-one settled with the other driver and exchanged information before fleeing the scene for fear of the police being called in.

He then led the police on a chase during which he lost control of his car, veered onto a lawn, and took out a row of mailboxes and a street sign. His car was stopped after it crashed into a tree and he was arrested. Prior to his arrest, Weston stopped by at the hospital to get checked out for injuries.

This is not the first time Weston is getting on the wrong side of the law. In 2011, he was arrested twice for domestic violence towards his first wife Nikki Williams. He later checked into a rehab to treat alcohol addiction and came out saying he was now sober.
