Presidency reacts to planned nationwide protest on February 5th

The presidency has reacted to the February 5th proposed Nationwide protest which singer, 2face Idibia and other celebrities have come out to support.

Speaking in an interview with Lagos Talk 91.3fm, Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, said those who are calling for the protest are people who supported the last government and are still pained that they lost the last election.

"This is a country of about 180 million people. It is impossible for 180 million people to think the same way. Yoruba has a saying that is you all sleep and put your head in the same direction, then you are all foolish because you would be breathing in one another's mouth and lungs. Dont forget the last election and how it went. Somebody scored 12.5 million votes, another scored about 15 million votes. There are some people who are still in that election mode. They have not gotten out of it and till today, they are still living and "rheumatisizing" about the past. What they don't know is that that past is gone and gone forever. Majority of those calling for the protest are still in election mode. Majority of them are people that have resolved not to see anything good in this administration simply because the man they wanted lost at the polls"he said

How Army officer beats up lady on her way to Onitsha (photos)

A young soldier, Sulaiman Olamilekan, has molested and beaten up a lady blue-black for 'talking about him'.

L-R: Oga soldier, Sulaiman Olamilekan and victim, Jewel Infinity

According to the Facebook post by the victim, Jewel Infinity, the oga soldier was said to have mercilessly beaten the lady up at a checking point while she was on her way to Onitsha from Portharcourt. Read the post by the victim who is bedridden in the hospital below:

"A CRY OF HELP!

"Please my good people of our nation, i am sincerely calling out for justice against violence. I am hospitalized right now as i type this with the lil stamina in me; i am in serious pain and agony; in between life and death. This is my story:

"This morning, at about 11.50am, i boarded a siena vehicle leaving PortHarcourt for Onitsha. As we approached the first checkpoint immediately after the airport, we pulled over as the soldiers ordered us to, for the usual scrutinization.

The lady in bed receiving treatment

"One of them, the youngest of them, by name, SULAIMAN OLAMILEKAN, began to molest me. He accused me of discussing him, where i was only having a friendly debate with the lady beside me about whether his car is tinted or not bcos of the way the we where being delayed bcos the driver didn't bring the back glass down when he stopped us immediately he was like 'hey you wetin you just talk now' I explained to him that he was never in the picture of the gist but he ignored me and demanded i disembark from the vehicle, kneel down and apologise to him.

The lady on the hospital bed

"I called his bluff and explained to him that i did nothing wrong to apologise. To my greatest dismay, this dude went in search of any object at his disposal (a huge stick), and started hitting it all over my body. He shove me out of the vehicle and when he piecesed the stick on me he went in search of another thing and he came back with a big rod immediately I saw him coming with that one and I noticed everyone was already scared to come closer also his colleagues were just there busy with the stopping of other vehicles I ran out of the vehicle and jumped down wanted to run over to the other lane to where their ogas used to stay but on a second thought I sensed he might throw the big rod on me I then stood still not believing he could actually used that on me b4 I knew it he started hitting my two leg with it.

The iron used on the lady by the soldier

"I was helpless as my fellow passengers were scared to intervene, the others (soldiers) disengaged him from hitting me further but they did not reprimand/reprove him. Instead, they confiscated my phone and prevented me from taking pictures of any of them my phone's screen is in pieces now . When i told them that i would nolonger proceed with the journey, they restrained me from going back to Portharcourt by compelling the driver to embark on our journey to (Onitsha) with me.

"The driver drove off to some distance away from there, and i alighted from the vehicle and boarded another one heading back to Portharcourt. The passengers in the bus were astonished at the injuries i sustained from the brutality. They sympathized with me and advised me to take the matter up. Even the new driver confirmed Ola to be a ruthless soldier as he has had an encounter like that with him before.

Part of the injury sustained by the lady

"As soon as we arrived Portharcour, i went straight to the Army Barracks to file a report about him. I narrated the whole story to them. The soldiers and the superiors there, were astonished at the cruel act and were sympathizing with me and pleaded that i shouldn't take the case any further; that the Ola dude would be remanded for one month in the barracks there (which i feel is not enough justice)they said he just joined then in the yr 2015

"I was quickly attended to and was taken to their clinic for treatment. They summoned for Ola, the dude was very shocked that the case had gotten here already. To God be the glory, he confessed correctly that i didn't do anything to have warranted his cruel action that he was in a very bad mood He said what happened there was inexplicable. This time, he genuflected and implored for compassion. He took my number when I was giving it to the nurse for my admission at the hospital an whatsapped me to forgive him and not take things seriously. (This was how i tracked his identity on True caller.)

5-year-old Iranian American boy handcuffed and held for 5 hours at airport in US because he could be a 'security threat'

A five-year-old boy was detained at Washington DC's Dulles airport on Saturday after President Trump signed the executive order banning citizens of some countries. The boy was handcuffed and held for five hours, an act which Donald Trump's Press secretary, Sean Spencer, has defended.

Spencer said: “To assume that just because of someone’s age and gender that they don’t pose a threat would be misguided and wrong."

Senator Van Hollen called the treatment of the boy "outrageous" and revealed that he had been held for too long, despite the authorities being notified in advance of his arrival. After his release, his mother was seen kissing him as she was reunited with her son.

The boy is a US citizen, resident in Maryland but is believed to have been born in Iran, a factor that most likely exposed him to the discrimination he suffered.

Nigerian lady becomes the only black woman to have two white children

A black woman of Nigerian decent has become the first black woman to have two white children. The probability of this happening once has been calculated to be less than one in a million.

Catherine Howarth, a Financial analyst who is married to Richard Howarth believed to have a recessive gene which resulted to the birth of her son, Jonah who was completely white and had blue eyes.

She was completely stunned when she gave birth to her second child and discovered she was also completely white.

According to her, when she gave birth to her first child, the genetic specialist said it was almost impossible for her as an African to have blue eyed child "When Jonah was born, a genetic specialist said he was a one-in-a-million baby. He said it was extraordinary with my African background that I'd had a child with blue eyes and pale skin. He calculated the possibility of it happening again was less than one in a million. So when Sophia was born with white skin and blue eyes I was more than taken back with shock. It seems the odds of it happening twice are millions-to-one. No-one has heard of a black mum having two white babies one after the other."

Catherine who is a Nigerian says she has no knowledge of white genes in her family. "My parents were from Nigeria and as far back as anyone can recall my family have all been black. The only explanation seems to be there must have been a white gene in my family that has remained dormant for years until now. And now it seems to be very dominant.' Despite the initial shock, the couple are delighted with their miracle children."

"Let us educate the illetrate" Blackface shares post in which 2face was blasted for planning a protest against Pres Buhari

Former Plantashun Boiz member Blackface, who has been feuding with his former bandmate, 2face, is apparently not in support of the February 5th protest 2face is heavily involved in. He shared a post written by one Dr Bunmi Awoyemi who lambasted 2face, on his IG page. See the post after the cut ...

#NATIONWIDE#PROTESTS LETS EDUCATE THE ILLITERATE AS HE LEADS THE PROTEST. I read Tuface Idibia's verbal tirade in Vanguard in which he said he will be leading a protest against Buhari on the 5th of February for among other things not paying salaries of civil servants. I think he needs to be educated about the efforts of the Buhari administration: So far Buhari has released three bail out funds to the 36 states in Nigeria totalling over N1.5 trillion in the last 18 months. Apart from this another trillion was released as Paris Club refund money to the 36 states. Buhari emphasized the need for the states to prioritize the payment of salaries of workers and pensions of pensioners as these states receive the money. Unfortunately, instead of some states to use the funds to pay off civil servants and pensioners salary and pension arrears they chose to loot the funds. A governor of one of the South South states siphoned N3b of the funds using his mistress as a front and now the mistress has run away with the funds. Tuface Idibia you can now see why Nigerians are suspicious of the motive and source of the funds for the protest you want to embark on. Why didn't you lead a protest against these governors who mismanaged the Buhari bail out funds and the Paris Club refund money? Why did you not protest against GEJ's looting of N51 trillion naira and the Godswill Akpabio alleged looting of over N1 trillion naira from the Akwa Ibom state treasury for which he is being prosecuted by the EFCC? Why didn't you protest Akpabio's alleged corrupting of a Supreme Court justice who is currently being tried for corrupt practices on the bench? Is it because you are a corruption apologist? Is it because you are the agent of corruption fighting back? Is it because you are part of desperate plot to poison the hearts and minds against a fantastically incorruptible President who fights the corrupt no matter whose ox is gored? We your fans want to assure you that if you go ahead with this protest we will reevaluate our support for you and it may be downhill for you afterwards. Rethink your actions and reflect deeply. Biafra Times publisher, 9 others arrested and arraigned on sedition charges

The publisher of Biafra Times and nine others were on Monday, arraigned before a Lagos Magistrates Court in Ikeja for allegedly publishing and circulating seditious and malicious publication.

The accused, Peter Eke, the publisher, Jamiu Eke, Azeez Ayoola, Akeem Adebakin, Bisi Akeem, Adewumi Temitope, Sakiru Folorunsho, Rafiu Qudus, Kunle Olusola, and Ayodeji Odunyinbo, were arrested on Sunday night, January 29th, at a room located at no 33 Oguntolu Street, Somolu.

Parading the 10 suspects after the arrest, Lagos State Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, said 515 copies of the offending newspaper were recovered during a raid on the printing press in Shomolu, Lagos. The printing press has been shut and the environment is being monitored. This is an offence punishable under the Criminal Law of Lagos State," Owoseni said.
The 30-year-old Eke, however, told journalists that he had no intention to promote disunity and disharmony among Nigerians. "I love my country and I love my president. My intention is not to fight my country; I just want to pass out information to those who have no access to the Internet. I usually go on the Internet to source for information and publish. I have other papers on sports and social life which I publish. I decided to specialise on Biafra Times when I discovered it is always a sell-out anytime we published stories about eastern parts of the country. Sometimes, I go to newspaper vendors and hear people requesting for Biafra Times. We usually print about 5000 copies which we sell for N100 nationwide," he said.
The accused all pleaded not guilty to the seven count charges preferred against them by the Lagos State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID)
After their plea, their lawyer, Lucy Baadoo, had moved an application for bail of the accused, urging the court to release the accused on bail on liberal terms.
The bail application was however refused by the magistrate who rather ordered accelerated hearing of the case. She consequently adjourned the case to February 10, 17 and 24 for commencement of trial.
In the charge, the prosecutor, Effiong Asuquo, OC Legal of the State Criminal Investigations Department, Panti Yaba, alleged that the accused projected obscene article in an unlicensed publication known as ‘The Biafra Times’ on January 29, 2017
They were alleged to have reproduced statements, rumors and reports calculated at inciting secession in a section of the Nigerian federation and which publication is capable of putting the federal government in fear.
The publication is said to contain pictorial displays of persons living and dead in a manner likely to provoke or bring into disaffection some section of the Nigerian federation.
The accused were also alleged to have conducted themselves in a manner likely to constitute a breach of peace, by inducing fear in the public to abstain from going about their lawful business.
The offences is said to have contravened the provisions of Section 58, 59 and 403 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Cap C17 Laws of the Federation, 2015.
