An 11-year-old Memphis girl was allegedly assaulted by a 20-year-old black man, Larry Ward, in Memphis, Tennessee, US. According to reports, the girl was walking to the bus stop on her way to middle school around 7am on Monday when she was suddenly hit by an SUV, abducted and raped by the driver before being left in a ditch... She told police that the driver got out of the car and forced her inside, drove off and brutally raped her. A man who saw her crying in a corner of the road minutes after the attack, said: 'Her face. Something just struck fear in her definitely.'

Mrs. Beatrice Akinrolabu who was kidnapped from her home at Bako Estate, Mile 14 along Ikorodu road three weeks ago has regained her freedom. According to her son, Bolatito Akinrolabu, she was released after her family and the kidnappers reached an agreement. "I thank you all for your words of kindness and prayers. We managed to reach an agreement with the kidnappers and my mom was released last night. We are thankful for all the genuine concern shown and efforts from numerous people too many to mention. Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) sitting in Uyo, Akwa Ibom state, has placed a 3 year ban on active politics on Ubong Joshua Etukudo, an ex- supervisory councillor of Ibesiko local government area, over his failure to submit his asset declaration form within the stipulated time. Delivering judgment in a petition before it yesterday, the tribunal chairman, Danladi Yakubu Umar, (pictured above) said Etukudo is banned from participating in neither elective or selective political office. Twelve children were rescued by the Lagos State Government from the custody of a Pastor, Onoyngu Chibuike, the founder of Voice of Salvation Charitable Organisation, who had been operating an illegal orphanage in Ojo since 2010. The hands of the law caught up with Chibuike last week when one of the children took ill and was taken to hospital for medical attention. Enquiries from the hospital about the medical history of the indisposed child revealed that Chibuike’s orphanage is not registered under the Lagos State Government.

Kidnapper says Dangote’s Human Resource Manager was killed for bringing incomplete ransom

The three men alleged to have kidnapped and killed the human resources manager of the Dangote Industries Limited, Istifanus Bello, have said he was murdered for bringing incomplete ransom. The suspects – Abdullahi Saliu, Babuga Adamu and Abubakar Gide – told Punch Metro that Bello got them angry after bringing N5.6m instead of the N10m agreed for the release of four expatriates earlier kidnapped by their gang. They said Bello was killed after he had been held for three days because he allegedly refused to call his employer to pay the balance of N4.4m. Punch Metro had reported .

Bolivians Jubilate In Court After Getting Lesser Sentences For Drugs In Nigeria (PHOTO)

A Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday sentenced three Bolivians to six years’ imprisonment for dealing in illicit drugs. The convicts are Reuben Jorge, Yhugo Moreno and Yerko Dorado. They were sentenced by Justice Oluremi Oguntoyinbo, who affirmed their guilty plea to the two counts pressed against them by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. The convicts had been in detention since February 3, 2013, when they were arrested by operatives of the NDLEA on Daily Times Estate, Satellite Town, Lagos State, the base where they illegally produced Ephedrine and Methamphetamine.

Residents of Ever Winning Avenue, in the Isheri Osun area of Lagos State, have fled the area after two landlords and a woman were kidnapped by gunmen. It was gathered that no fewer than 500 residents had relocated from the area. Residents seen by a Punch correspondent on Tuesday in the area claimed that only 15 persons were left in the community. It was learnt that the dwellers started fleeing on Friday when the gunmen, numbering about eight, invaded the neighbourhood and abducted a woman, identified simply as Iya Mitchell.

The Oyo State Government on Tuesday said 662 civil servants had been dismissed from the state public service for forging the West African Examination Council’s certificates. The compulsory youth service scheme was established by then head of state, Yakubu Gowon in the aftermath of the civil war in a bid to foster unity and patriotism. Since 1973, graduates have been required to take part in the National Youth Service Corps program for one year. In present day Nigeria however, the 43yr old scheme seems more like a very expensive albatross that has outlived its purpose. In addition to the vast sums of money it gulps, it does not inspire patriotic fervour in the nation's youth.

A lorry driver, Neville Fletcher, ignored a red light at a pedestrian crossing, leading to the death of a mother-of-two and her daughter. A CCTV camera on the street captured Mr. Fletcher as he ran into 43-year-old Zena Jackson and her six-year-old daughter, Cidalia, near Stanley Street in Spring Bank, Hull, UK. When Fletcher arrived before the Hull Magistrate Court, the presiding Judge, Jeremy Richardson QC, said that no sentence imposed on the offender can make up for the loss the family has suffered.

Egyptian authorities have arrested doctors, nurses and professors suspected of being involved in an international organ trafficking ring. The arrests of at least 25 people on Tuesday also included organ buyers and middlemen, the country's Administrative Control Authority said. Authorities also found "millions of dollars and gold bullion". It is illegal to purchase organs in Egypt, but poverty drives some to sell their body parts.
