Photos: Two PDP lawmakers decamp to APC in Jigawa State

Two PDP members from Gwiwa and Fagam Constituencies in Jigawa State House of Assembly, Alhaji Ibrahim Suleiman Gwiwa and Shuaibu Inuwa, on Thursday, decamped to the All Progressive Congress, APC. Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar witnessed formal decamping of the two PDP members on the invitation of the Speaker of the House. PDP had five members in the thirty member State Legislative House, however, this development has reduced the number to three.

Those still in the PDP are members from Buji, Kiyawa and Miga Constituencies in the State Assembly.
Speaking to journalists, the lawmakers denied allegations that they were given money to leave PDP.
"Nobody gave us koko to join APC, I left because my former party lacked one leadership. Even the PDP's national headquarters had been under lock and key for the past one year," Shuaibu Inuwa said.
"I also moved to APC because of prudent management of the state's resources by the present administration under Governor Badaru." he added.
Mr Gwiwa on his part said:
"Looking at my age and experience, you will believe that there is nothing monetary in my defection to APC"

EFCC raids former NNPC boss, Andrew Yakubu’s home in Kaduna, allegedly recover $9.2m, £72,000

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, raided the home of former Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Andrew Yakubu in Kaduna state on Wednesday and allegedly recovered $9.2 million in his safe.

According to Vanguard, also recovered after the raid was £72,000 which is reportedly the largest sum of cash the commission had recovered in recent weeks.

Yakubu who served as NNPC boss from 2012 to 2014 during the Goodluck Jonathan administration, was arraigned by the anti-graft agency in June 2016 on allegations of money laundering.

Wikipedia bans quotations of The Daily Mail for being "generally unreliable"

Wikipedia has barred citations of The Daily Mail after editors of the online encyclopedia concluded on February 8, 2017 that the British tabloid is "generally unreliable."

The decision came after years of long debate over the Daily Mail's credibility among Wikipedia's active community of volunteer editors. The editors explained that the decision stemmed from "the Daily Mail's reputation for poor fact checking, sensationalism, and flat-out fabrication."

As a result, the Daily Mail and its online offshoot have been "generally prohibited" as a reference on Wikipedia, "especially when other more reliable sources exist."

The editors recommended installing an "edit filter" that will "warn editors attempting to use the Daily Mail as a reference." They also encouraged the volunteers to review the thousands of Daily Mail citations already on Wikipedia, and to "remove/replace them as appropriate."

The Daily Mail is one of the UK's most commercially successful tabloids, and its website churning out upwards of 1,600 stories a day is the most-read online newspaper in the world.

But the publication has at times been as wildly inaccurate as it is widely read. In 2014, George Clooney ripped the Daily Mail for a story claiming that the mother of Clooney's then-fiancee, Amal Alamuddin, opposed their marriage for religious reasons. The story, littered with false claims, was eventually deleted.

Earlier this week, a lawyer for First Lady Melania Trump re-filed a lawsuit against the Daily Mail over an already-retracted story detailing claims that she used to be involved in a "high-end escort" service.

VP Yemi Osinbajo condemns social media campaign to bring back corruption

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, yesterday, condemned the social media campaigns by some Nigerians to bring back corruption. Some Nigerians started the campaign on social media believing that the hardship that is currently being experienced would be a thing of the past if corruption is brought back. Osinbajo condemned the campaign when he received members of the organized labor that staged a protest to the state house Abuja.

“Every time you fight corruption the way we are trying to fight corruption, there is a major fight back, because corruption in this country is wealthy, powerful, influential and it is in every aspect of our lives. It is in practically all institutions including religious institutions. The social media campaign of bring back corruption is an orchestrated one. Nobody that is suffering can say bring back corruption. Attempts by those who are being tried for corruption to delay trials are also part of the orchestrated campaign. If we don’t speak up against corrupt officials, who make it look as if there is a witch-hunt, then we will not succeed in the fight. Government needs everybody to speak up. We have a serious battle in our hands and if we don’t win that battle, this country will never get to the path of sustainable development. The major problem that this country has suffered so far is the looting of its resources. We must fight corruption hard. It is a tough one, but we must fight it.”he said

President Trump signs three new executive orders on crime reduction

Shortly after swearing in Attorney General, Jeff Sessions US President, Donald Trump on Thursday signed three new executive orders that he said are "designed to restore safety in America."

One of the orders, aimed at "reducing crime and restoring public safety," directs the newly appointed attorney general to establish a new Task Force on Crime Reduction and Public Safety.
The Task Force will develop "strategies to reduce crime, including, in particular, illegal immigration, drug trafficking and violent crime," propose new legislation, and submit at least one report to the President within the next year.

The second executive order is aimed at combating transnational drug cartels, proscribes steps for various federal agencies to "increase intelligence" sharing among law enforcement partners. The order also instructs an existing inter-agency working group to submit a report to Trump within four months detailing the progress made in combating criminal organizations, "along with any recommended actions for dismantling them."

Finally, Trump signed an executive order directing the Justice Department to use existing federal law to prosecute those who commit crimes against law enforcement officers.

Stop begging people to stay with you...Your destiny is not tied to the person who left...let them go!

Anything God means for you to have, he will give it to you. If it takes too much sweat, then it's not from God. Let it go. Watch the video above from Pastor T.D Jakes and receive some sense...lol

Governor Fayose's reaction to president Buhari's health

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has called Nigerians to jointly pray to God for President Muhammadu Buhari’s speedy recovery so that
he can return on time and resume work.

Fayose made the call on Thursday, February 9, at the government house in Ekiti state when the general overseer of Champions Glory Assembly Church,
Pastor Joshua Lasisi, paid him a visit, Vanguard reports.

The governor who wished the president sound health, however advised the presidency to ensure that it gives accurate information about the health status
of the president so as to forestall a situation whereby people would continue to spread rumour.
He said: “But the best thing we should all realize is that the Presidency owes Nigerians accurate information about the situation of things.
Otherwise people would contier. Nigerians demanding for truthful and accurate information about the President’s health from the Presidency

are right because the moment you assume such a position, your life has become public. So, we should let Nigerians have the accurate information

about the whereabouts of Mr. President."
He asked Nigerians to pray for the president, noting that nobody has control over health challenges.

The former Reds midfielder believes the whole mentality at the Anfield club must change if they are to achieve success
Liverpool are in desperate need of a "reality check" if they are ever to match their success of the past, according to former midfielder Dietmar Hamann.
Costa out, Morata in at Chelsea?
Jurgen Klopp's side have won only one match match in 2017 - an FA Cup replay against Plymouth Argyle - and are without a victory in their last five Premier League matches.
Liverpool started the campaign in impressive fashion but their desperate run of form has seen them knocked out of both domestic cup competitions and drop out of the top four.
And Hamann, who won the Champions League and two FA Cups in a hugely successful spell at Anfield, has slammed the club as a whole for believing the hype around the team.
"The biggest problem is what people within the club - including the players - perceive Liverpool to be and where they actually are," he told Paddy Power's football blog.
HD Jurgen Klopp
"There's a huge gap between that perception and reality. Klopp has to fight to change the mentality - not only in the team, but in the whole club. Everyone needs to work 100 per cent harder to get Liverpool back to where they were.
"Part of the problem is the club creates so much interest all over the world, people still seem to think that they're still one of the driving forces in Europe - which they're not.
"The reason the club still attracts interest is because the guys in the 1970s and 1980s were unbeatable. That's got nothing to do with the current crop of players and that's not what has happened in the last eight to 10 years. If you look at the facts of that period it's been pretty dire.
"The club needs a reality check on whether everything that's being done is as it should be.
"I'm not saying the owners didn't back Jurgen Klopp because he was given some money to spend, but the mindset within the entire club needs to change. That filters down to the team. They've put in some fantastic performances away to Arsenal and Chelsea, but then they get beat by Hull, Burnley and Wolves.
"Sometimes the club and the team believe their own hype. You've got to be consistent. It doesn't matter whether you go 10 or 20 games without losing. If Liverpool don't finish in the top four and have no trophy to show at the end of the season - it's a disappointment. End of.
Perez rules out Copa final at Bernabeu
"Before Christmas a lot of people had them down as one of the Premier League favourites. It's hard to explain the bad run that's followed. You can lose games of course - most teams have dips in a season - but to have such a period of disappointing results is unacceptable.
"Complacency is the biggest issue the club faces at the moment. People believe 'we are Liverpool, we are going to be alright'. No, they're not alright because a lot of people within the club think that if you give the manager a four-year extension it gives off the perception that things are great, when they're not.

"The manager needs to look hard at the team, but there needs to be a thought process throughout the whole club if they want to maximise what's possible with the players that they've got."

Donald Trump lashes out at Sen McCain, CNN after they criticize U.S raid on Yemen that killed 23 civilians

U.S President Donald Trump took to Twitter to lash out at Democratic senators John McCain and Richard Blumenthal after they criticized the U.S Military's secret raid on Yemen, authorized by Donald Trump that killed at least 23 civilians, including women and children and also led to the death of a Navy Seal, Chief Petty Officer William "Ryan" Owens.

The operation carried out by Special Navy seals, which occurred on the 29th of January, was to target and eliminate al Qaeda members in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) and also obtain Intel on future operations against al Qaeda in Yemen.

The mission, just like previous raids of past president Barack Obama on Yemen soil, was considered a success according to Defense secretary James Mattis and chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Gen. Joseph Dunford, but senators Blumenthal and McCain have criticized the operation, saying such an operation that cost the life of a Navy Seal was unnecessary.

Trump took to his Twitter account to blast them and even attacked CNN and it's reporter Chris Cuomo for not talking about Blumenthal's 'lie' that he served in Vietnam.

Photos: Staff of National Open University burnt to death as fire guts house in Ketu, Lagos

A woman has been confirmed dead following a fire outbreak at No. 7 Jemigbon Street, Apollo Estate, off Elebiju, Ketu, Lagos, on Thursday, February 9th.

A statement by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency said a distress call prompted the immediate activation of the Agency's Emergency Response Team including the LRU Fire Unit and the Lagos State Fire Service to the scene of the incident, and prevented the spread of the inferno to other buildings in the estate.

Preliminary investigation conducted by the Agency's ERT at the scene of the incident revealed that a duplex which was converted to flats (5 mini flat, a two bedroom flat , a four bedroom flat ) was gutted by fire as a result of power surge from one of the mini flats on the first floor of the building ,which then escalated to other flats in the building.

Further investigation revealed that inferno which engulfed the entire building got the adult female entrapped and severely burnt. The body was recovered by the Agency' ERT, handed over to The State Environmental Health Monitoring Unit SEHMU and has since been deposited at the Lagos Mainland General Hospital Mortuary. The woman was identified as a staff of the National Open University of Nigeria,
The General Manager LASEMA sympathized with the family of the deceased, but however emphasised the incoperation of safety into building construction such as provision of more than one emergency exit route and installation of surge protectors and fire alarm systems to avoid unnecessary loss of lives and properties.
