Family of a Nigerian lady petitions FG over her death and cremation of her corpse by Polish husband

The family of Oluwashola Gaska, nee Adefolalu, has petitioned the Federal Government over her mysterious death in Poland and the cremation of her corpse by her Polish husband, Jakub Gaska, without their consent.
At a press conference which held in Lagos, the deceased elder sister, Oluwashola Abimbola Essien-Nelson, claims her sister was murdered by her husband and her corpse hastily cremated in order to cover up his crime.

In a petition dated January 29, 2017, the family accused Mr Gaska of murder, unlawful cremation and burial of Oluwashola in Krakow, Poland. Late Oluwashola studied in Poland where she later met and married her husband, Mr Jakub Gaska in 2010.

A part of the petition read
"The last verbal conversation I had with the deceased took place on December 24, 2016, and she made no complaint about her health. At about 11.28am, on Wednesday, December 28, 2016, I received a telephone call from the husband that ‘there had been an accident, Shola had fallen unconscious and had died.’
“The husband did not tell me the nature of the so called accident. I was still conversing with the husband when the telephone was disconnected.
“The husband later called me back on the same day, stating that Oluwashola fell ill on Tuesday, and that he and his sister took her to the a hospital (the name of the hospital was not provided). He said she passed away at about 3am on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.”
The petition also stated that, the family informed Mr Gaska of their plans to come to Krakow for her burial and their desire to see her corpse but he cremated her body without informing them.
“We also made it clear to him that because of the sudden nature of her death, we want to see her corpse. We sent several sets of representatives from the Nigerian community to him in this regard, but he refused to allow anyone access to the corpse. His response was that Oluwashola said only Ambibola and no other person, should see her corpse,” the petition read.
Mr Gaska reportedly cremated her body on 2nd January 2017 and interred the ashes on January 7, 2017 without informing the Adefolalus

Buhari is a victim of transparency, he is hale and hearty- Lai Mohammed says

Information Minister Lai Mohammed on Wednesday declared that President Buhari had become a victim of his own transparency in relation to his current vacation abroad. Mohammed stated this while speaking with State House correspondents after the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on the interest Nigerians have shown in knowing the President’s health status. According to him, the President is hale, hearty and absolutely in no danger.
“I can say it without any equivocation, Mr President is well, he is hale and he is hearty; no question about that. “I want to assure you, Mr President is well and he is in absolutely no danger. Mr. President, like I said elsewhere, is probably a victim of his own transparency. He was going on leave, he did what the constitution said he should do, transmitted it to the National Assembly and Acting President was put in place. And he said `while I am on leave, I am going to conduct some medical tests’ which many, or all of us do without announcing it.’’ Mohammed said it was surprising that Buhari was pronounced dead by some people, less than six hours after he arrived in London.
He noted with regret that even those, who saw the President board the aircraft in Abuja en route London, claimed that he was flown to that country via an air ambulance.

The minister, who said that the vice president speaks with president Buhari on a daily basis, added:
“I can assure you that the President is well he is hale and hearty and there is absolutely no cause for concern.’’
Reacting to the suggestion that the Federal Ministry of Information should be releasing hourly bulletins on the President’s health condition, Mohammed said there was no need for that.
“Mr President is not ill, he is not in hospital and there is no reason to give anybody any bulletin about his health, pure and simple,’’ he said.

FG identifies main cause of Hike in food prices, set to adopt measures to reduce it

The Federal government has identified high cost of diesel and transportation of food items from different parts of the country as the main cause of the recent hike in the prices of all food items.

At its Federal Executive Council meeting last week, the Federal government constituted a task force to advise the government on how best to address the rising cost of food items across the country.

Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh, who is part of the special task force, told state house correspondents yesterday that investigations by the taskforce showed that the increase in the pump price of diesel caused an increase in the transportation which has automatically caused the recent hike in the prices of many food items.

To address this issue, Ogbeh said the Federal government has resolved to start using railway wagons to transport food items across the country. He noted that the use of wagons to transport cattle from the North to Lagos has helped in drastically reducing the cost of cattle in the South and that this measure will now be replicated in the transportation of food items as well.

“We will also work with state governments to reduce delays experienced by trucks along the roads through all sort of taxes by local governments” he said.
