British Council honours 4 Nigerian Schools at the 3rd edition of the International School Awards (ISA)
British Council Nigeria has honoured four outstanding schools with the International School Award- ISA. The Council, in its bid to promote the standard of learning in the country, formally recognised the efforts of the schools in successfully implementing set global standards of learning at the third edition of ISA held in Sheraton, Abuja.
The ceremony hosted educationists from both the private and public sectors, schools, colleges and members of the public.
The four schools who now join the prestigious list of past national and global awardees include: Hallel college Port-Harcourt, Oxbridge Tutorial College Lagos, Redeemer’s International School Lagos, and Start-Rite school Abuja.
The British Council International School Award started in 1999 to recognise schools leading the way in instilling a global dimension into the learning experience of children and young people.
The schools received the prestigious award, in recognition of their work in implementing core teaching and learning skills that shape global thinking and build global citizens in the class room where learners are taught to shape the future for themselves and future generations.
The representative of British council, Louisa Waddingham in her remarks emphasised the need for educators to recognise and solve problems in innovative ways that facilitate constructive human relationships.
She added that the School Leadership programme focuses on developing essential leadership skills while uniquely applying these skills to the context of embedding an international dimension in the curriculum and ethos of a school.
Principal Consultant, Leading Learning Ltd and Former Executive Director, Corona Schools Trust Council-Folasade Adefisayo in her address; noted that the quality of teaching had significant impact on the success of a child and the society at large, irrespective of background or innate skills and talents. According to her, ‘‘the system cannot rise beyond the level of its teachers.''

Turkish school kidnap suspects confess to killing presenter Aisha Ali-Balogun and kidnapping her daughter with 6 others
Vanguard reported that a reliable police source revealed that the suspects confessed to the crime committed late last year on Ikorodu road which claimed the life of Aisha, presenter of a popular comedy show, Stand Up Nigeria.
Among the suspects recently apprehended is a nurse, Felicia Weinoh, whose area of speciality is treating ailing victims and members of the kidnapping gang. Alex Super (aka Yanga) and Egbasimokumo Ayeomi were also recently arrested as they were leaving the Ikorodu creeks from Majidun, carrying bags. N3 million was found in the bags and the men confessed to their crimes. They said they each got N2 million from the ransom paid.
Other suspects who have been arrested in relation to the kidnap are Philip Joel (aka General Kakadu), Bekewei Agbojule (aka Prince Yellow), Arogbo Ijaw, Romeo Council (aka Raw) and Totki Okoda

Nigeria Customs declares two officers wanted in connection with clearance of container with 661 pump action rifles
The Nigeria Customs Service has declared two of its, officers Odiba Haruna Innah and Abdullahi. I, wanted in connection with the clearance of container found to contain 661 pump action rifles. The agency on Monday intercepted a 661 pieces of pump action rifles from China, concealed with steel doors and other goods which came through Lagos.
The Comptroller-General of Customs, Col. Hameed Alli said the Federal Operations Unit, while on patrol, intercepted a Mark truck with registration number BUG 265 XG conveying a 40ft container with number PONU/825914/3 along Mile 2 Apapa Road, Lagos.
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the illegal importation. The suspects are Mr Oscan Okafor, an importer, Mahmud Haruna, a clearing agent, and Sadique Mustapha, who accompanied the consignment to its destination
